Aerospace and Defense Video Production in Utah

Aerospace video production in Utah is its own kind of work. The companies building aircraft parts, propulsion systems, avionics, drones, and test hardware along the Wasatch Front need video that explains hard technology clearly, helps them hire, and builds trust with partners and primes. They also need a crew that understands what can and cannot be on camera before anyone opens a case of gear.

Capture Films is a video production studio in Provo, Utah. We plan, shoot, and edit capability films, facility tours, recruiting videos, program explainers, and event content for technical companies. This post covers how we approach aerospace and defense projects, what kinds of videos tend to earn their keep, and how we keep production security aware from the first call. If you want our broader take on working with Utah companies, start with our Utah video production guide.

WHY UTAH AEROSPACE COMPANIES NEED THEIR OWN KIND OF VIDEO

Utah has a real aerospace and defense community, from established primes and suppliers to young hard tech startups in Utah County and Salt Lake County. These companies sell into long buying cycles, compete for scarce engineering talent, and often cannot show the most interesting parts of their work.

That last point shapes everything. A consumer brand can film anything that looks good. An aerospace supplier has to think about export controls, customer agreements, and program sensitivity. The job of the video is to communicate capability and culture without exposing anything the company does not want public. Good aerospace video production in Utah starts with that constraint and turns it into a creative brief instead of an afterthought.

THE VIDEOS THAT DO THE MOST WORK

Most aerospace and defense clients do not need a single splashy film. They need a small set of assets that support sales, recruiting, and events over time. The most useful formats we see:

  • Capability films that explain what the company builds, who it serves, and why its process is reliable, without revealing controlled technical data.

  • Facility tours that show the shop floor, clean rooms, labs, and test areas in a way that has been reviewed and approved ahead of time.

  • Recruiting videos that let engineers, machinists, and technicians talk about the work and the team in their own words.

  • Program explainers that use motion graphics to describe a product or mission at a level that is safe for public release.

  • Event promos and recap content for conferences, demo days, and industry weeks.

We cover the recruiting angle in more depth in a future post, and the same thinking we use in our product explainer video guide applies to program explainers: lead with the problem, show the result, and keep the technical detail at the right level for the audience.

ITAR AND SECURITY AWARE PRODUCTION

We want to be direct about this. Capture Films does not hold security clearances, and we do not film classified programs or classified spaces. What we do is run productions that respect the controls our clients already have in place.

In practice, that looks like:

  • A pre production walkthrough with the client's program, security, or export compliance contact to agree on what is in frame and what is not.

  • Shot lists that are approved before the shoot, with clear no film zones, covered screens, and parts or drawings removed or masked.

  • Escorted access on site, following the client's visitor rules and badge procedures.

  • Camera angles and lens choices that suggest scale and precision without revealing controlled details.

  • A review step on rough cuts so the client's compliance team can flag anything before it is exported for public use.

  • Careful handling of raw footage, with delivery and storage handled the way the client specifies.

We treat ITAR and EAR considerations as the client's call. Their export control and security teams set the rules, and we build the production to fit inside them. That keeps the project moving and avoids the expensive reshoot that happens when a crew learns the boundaries after the footage is already captured.

REAL WORK IN THE VERTICAL

Our aerospace and hard tech work is grounded in projects we have actually produced. Capture Films produced the promo for 47G Hard Tech Week, an event that brings together Utah's aerospace, defense, and hard tech community. Event promos like that one need to communicate energy and seriousness at the same time, and they need to feel native to an audience of engineers, founders, and investors who can spot a generic sizzle reel immediately.

We have also worked on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) content tied to aviation development in Utah County, helping introduce what an emerging aviation hub could mean for the community and industry. That kind of project mixes aerial footage, interviews, and clear explanation of a technical subject for a public audience.

You can see examples of our work on our Vimeo portfolio, and more about who we are on our about page.

LOCAL LOGISTICS ALONG THE WASATCH FRONT

Being based in Provo matters for aerospace clients. Many Utah suppliers and test sites are a short drive from our studio, from Utah County north through Salt Lake County and Davis County. That makes it practical to schedule scouting visits, security walkthroughs, and pickup shoots without adding travel days.

It also makes ongoing programs easier. A supplier that wants a capability film this quarter, a recruiting series next quarter, and event content around a conference can work with the same crew that already knows its facility, its people, and its approval process. That continuity is one reason we recommend ongoing programs over one off shoots where it fits, which we cover in our post on video content retainers.

HOW A TYPICAL AEROSPACE PROJECT RUNS

Every project is different, but most follow a similar path:

  • Discovery. We learn the audience, the goal, and the constraints, including who on the client side approves content for public release.

  • Creative and security planning. We draft the story, interview questions, and shot list, then review them with the client's program and security contacts.

  • Production. We film on site with a lean, escorted crew, following the agreed shot list and client visitor procedures.

  • Post production. We edit, add motion graphics where real footage cannot be shown, and mix sound.

  • Review and release. The client's compliance and leadership teams review rough cuts before we deliver final files sized for web, social, events, and recruiting platforms.

Motion graphics deserve a special mention. When a product, test, or mission cannot be filmed directly, clean animation can explain it at the right level of detail. It is often the safest way to show how something works without showing the thing itself.

TELLING THE HUMAN SIDE

Aerospace buyers and candidates are people. The strongest aerospace video production in Utah usually gives them a reason to care about the team behind the hardware. Short interviews with engineers, machinists, quality leads, and founders can carry a film further than any number of b roll shots of machines.

We plan those interviews carefully. We prep participants on what topics are off limits, keep questions focused on culture, problem solving, and mission, and avoid anything that drifts into controlled technical detail. The result is content that feels honest and personal while staying inside the rules. Our approach to testimonial videos for Utah companies applies here too: real people, real words, and no scripted claims.

WORKING WITH CAPTURE FILMS

If you are a Utah aerospace, defense, aviation, or hard tech company that needs capability films, facility tours, recruiting content, or event promos, we would like to hear about your project. We will ask about your audience, your timeline, and your security and export control requirements up front, then build a production plan that fits.
